We’ll be attending and putting a review together of the show. Cave-in is one of those bands that has constantly changed and matured through their music. Their first collection of songs, Beyond Hypothermia (1998), is close to my heart. While jumping around the mathcore genre I came across it and fell in love. Then I listened to Antenna (2003) and thought it was a completely different band. Let’s just say, they like to switch it up. They are back on tour and their new album comes out May 24th! Even the record label is excited!

Decidedly old hat; students from Queens University have a better idea: snowglobes. Hacking together a 3D HD projector, two Kinect sensors, and a hemispherical mirror mounted inside of an acrylic sphere, “Project Snowglobe” has created a pseudo holographic display — presenting a 360-degree view of a digital object. The all-angles display is compelling, but it’s strictly a single-user affair; the object isn’t actually projected in 3D — it instead follows the movements of a lone Earthling, rotating and shifting position, in sync with the viewer. The display standard of the future? (Minority Report) Maybe not, but pretty darn cool, all the same. Hit up the video after the break to check it out.

If you were around for the first rendition of gaming.cantstopthis.net you’d know that we have a great appreciation for video game fan art. Well today we are showcasing the work done by a gentleman that I met at the TooManyGames convention at the Philly Expo Center a few weeks ago. His name is Adam Shub and has been doing Pixel Art for 6 years now. His deviantID reads: “I paint 8bit and 16bit video game scenes.” and he does with such precision that I picked up on a couple of his painting from across the expo hall (I spotted his solid snake painting and I couldn’t take my eyes off of it!). Adam does sell the majority of the paintings so I’ve included all of his contact information if your interested in making a purchase.
